Read MoreMeeting called to order at 5:05 pm on 5/13/2017 by John Tani, President of the Wintergreen Sporting Club. John covered the agenda, including the report of the minutes of the last meeting, the treasurer's report, and the reports of the leads of the interest groups.
Minutes of the meeting of 11/5/2016 were covered in brief by Stu Harvey, WSC secretary. He mentioned that the full text of the minutes are posted on the WSC website. The minutes were approved by voice vote.
Bruce Henderson, WSC treasurer, covered the financial state of the organization.
The number of current members--190; increase from last year–30.
The number of email recipient who are not members–60. Total email list is now over 250 addresses.
Financial status
Opening balance--$5,560.
Income--$2,235
Expenses--$1,360.
Current balance--$6,435.
Efforts made to keep expenses down. Membership cards not mailed, but can be picked up at the Rockfish Bakery in Nellysford. Dues unchanged at $25 per person per year.
Fishing–Bruce Henderson
WPOA and Lynchburg College have cooperated on the review of the quality of several Wintergreen ponds.
John Tani and Jay Roberts meeting with Tom Shahady of Lynchburg College. The proposal by Lynchburg College to oversee the status of the ponds is under consideration by WPOA.
Proposal for WPOA to pay for pond maintenance under consideration by the Executive Director of WPOA.
The fishing group has under consideration another bass tournament and a fishing program for kids on Labor Day weekend.
Archery–Mike Capps
The WSC archery program runs from April to October. A club tournament planned for October 10.
WPOA paid for new signage and some material for a new lane at Rodes Farm along with club treasury and others; lane was constructed by volunteers.
The field range at the end of Old Stoney Creek is open with seven lanes and new signage.
Archery program has extra equipment available for people interested in trying out archery.
Shooting Pistol–Ron Cote
Events are held at both Hite Hollow and Rivanna Rifle and Pistol Club.The group leads must limit the number of participants for RRPC range outings in accordance with RRPC guest policy. WSC and RRPC are not affiliated. To shoot at RRPC you must be a member of RRPC or a guest of an RRPC member. This group has its shoot meets on 2nd and 4th Mondays. Meet at 9 AM in the Stoney Creek parking lot.
Social–Judy Rendich and Carol Dworkin
The social group handles the dinners at the WSC meetings, held twice a year. The next event is 10/28/2017 and the menu will bee Italian food.
Boating–Jerry Rendich
Includes kayak and canoe, both flat water and mild moving water locations. Club has three kayaks and a canoe and a six-boat trailer for use by members.
Initial program for the year is set. Detailed dates and location available on the website. Notices will be sent by email.
Shooting Shotgun–Charlie Schulte
Events held at Flying Rabbit (location south of Harrisonburg) the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays.
Members meet at Stoney Creek parking lot and at mail kiosk on the mountain, typically at 10 AM--back by 3 PM.
A biking group is being formed. Leads will be Bob Browne, Chuck Thornsvard, and Barbara Fenton. They could not be present, the group’s information presented by John Tani.
Some 35 people have responded. Safety will be emphasized. Only road biking planned at this time. There will be a meeting to organize at Tuckahoe Clubhouse on 6/3/2017 at 9 AM.
