This beautiful hike starts near the Sugar Hollow Reservoir and follows the river upstream into Shenandoah National Park. (Note: parking is not inside the park). May 22nd- The Trout Pond is now “catch and keep” all the fish you can reasonably eat. The rules for bait have also been relaxed until October 1, 2026. Please fish all you like and keep all you catch. You may use any bait you wish – no restrictions.
As noted these rules apply until October 1, 2026 at which time the normal rules will be reinstated for the remainder of the year. Fishing on the pond is restricted to Wintergreen property owners and their guests; a WPOA fishing permit must be displayed, and a valid VA freshwater fishing license is required.
Trout Pond is stocked with Rainbow Trout in a cooperative program with the WSC and the Wintergreen Property Owners Association. Thanks to the WSC volunteers for feeding the fish. Updates will be posted here and in the WSC email newsletters. WSC membership is not required to sign up for our newsletters. Sign up for the free fishing newsletters here.
