Hiking
The Wintergreen Sporting Club’s hiking group explores hiking opportunities in the central Virginia area.
The group’s hikes vary from easy to challenging, long and short. The goal is to provide a fun way to explore new and familiar parts of this region’s beautiful nature and history with your friends and neighbors. The club strives to give every hiker a good experience on every hike.
WSC hikers will explore the trails off the Blue Ridge Parkway, national forests, state parks, regional parks, as well as hiking trails within Wintergreen.
Hikers should always bring
· Daypack
. Snacks and water
· Weather-appropriate clothing. (If rain is forecasted, bring a rain jacket.)
· Sun Protection. (Sunglasses, sunscreen, or sunhat)
· Appropriate footwear
Insect repellent and hiking poles are recommended but not required. For longer hikes, a flashlight or headlamp is also recommended.
Trip details are emailed to WSC members who have signed up for hiking news. In addition to planned hikes listed on the website, there are additional impromptu outings. (If a planned hike is canceled or rescheduled a trip leader will contact those who have signed up.)
WTG Sporting Club members are invited to suggest hikes they have personally hiked. Questions, suggestions or to volunteer to assist in leading a trip, members can email hiking@wtgsportingclub.org.
Want to lead a WSC hike? Great. Interested members can contact the club’s hiking group leads about policy and procedures.
To keep up with what’s going on with the WSC Hiking group, sign up for the WSC free email newsletters, and under interests, check “Hiking.”
Details about the hikes will be emailed via the WSC Hiking newsletter as we get closer to each event, including weather, where to park, difficulty, hike length, description, and what to bring.
