The Wintergreen Sporting Club’s hikes vary from easy to challenging, long and short. The goal is to provide a fun way to explore new and familiar parts of this region’s beautiful nature and history with your friends and neighbors. The club strives to have every hiker have a good experience on every hike.
Hike is currently full. Hike the Blue Ridge Tunnel - Nov 16th. Meet at 10:00 at east trailhead.
Join us for a chili lunch to celebrate the hiking group’s first year, Nov 7th at 1:00 pm. The hike to the cabin is an easy hike. In addition, there is an optional morning hike to Sherando Lake before the lunch. Hike starts at 9:30 am.
Hike rescheduled for Saturday!!. Join us a picnic lunch - The hike is on the Appalachian Trail and is only 1 1/2 miles but with great views for a picnic!
New Hike Added!! Hike Dobie Mountain Trail, Thursday, August 22nd. The weather looks great for a hike on the Albright Trail on Dobie Mountain (next to Humpback Rocks). This moderate 4 mile loop hike is an enjoyable hike through the woods with a stop at Glass Hollow Overlook for a snack and mountain views.
In addition to planned hikes listed on the schedule, additional impromptu outings are announced to those who have signed up for WSC Hiking newsletters.
Join us as we head to Shenandoah National Park to hike the Jones Run/Doyles River Loop, a 7-mile moderately challenging hike that includes multiple waterfalls.
Hike is Rescheduled for Friday, July 19th. We will hike to St Mary’s Falls in St. Mary’s Wilderness Area. HIKE IS FULL. The hike is a wet one with multiple stream crossings. It’s a fun hike for the summer and there is a swimming hole by the falls.
On Friday, May 31st, the WSC Hiking group completed a hike on Cole Mountain which is located within the Mt Pleasant National Scenic Area in Amherst County. The mountain has been described as “The Sound of Music” mountain because of its high-alpine open, grassy meadows with 360-degree views.
On Thursday, May 16th, the WSC Hiking Group successfully completed its inaugural hike along the nearby White Rock Falls Loop trail. By all accounts, the hike was a success with twelve hikers of various ages and abilities making the 4.5 mile loop in about 3 hours
Join us on WSC’s inaugural hike to White Rock Falls Loop off the Blue Ridge Parkway on Wednesday, May 15. This beautiful hike nearby on the Blue Ridge Parkway is a great opportunity to enjoy our local nature
The new WSC Hiking Group will explore hiking opportunities in the central Virginia area, similar to how the WSC biking and boating groups have worked. Wayne & Mary Lou Mortimer have agreed to serve as co-leaders of the new WSC Hiking Group.
