Jones Run and Doyles River Hike, Shenandoah National Park -Friday, August 16

Join us as we hike the Jones Run/Doyles River Falls in Shenandoah National Park. This popular loop hike is mostly shaded and passes by waterfalls along both the Jones Run River and Doyles River. The trailhead is just an hour’s drive from Wintergreen.

This hike is moderately challenging with over 1300’ of elevation gain and loss. Distance: 7 miles; Hike Duration: 4 - 4.5.hours. Previous hiking experience of similar difficulty is required. No dogs except service dogs are permitted on this group hike. Read all the details below before signing up using the form on this page.

Explore Appalachian and Jones Run Trail Loop via Brown's Gap | AllTrails

Meet: Stoney Creek Golf Course Parking Area on Friday, August 16th at 9 am. We will carpool to the Browns Gap Parking Area (Driving Distance: 37 miles). Alternately, if you prefer to drive, meet at 10 am at the trailhead at the Browns Gap Parking Area (map). The drive will take approximately 1 hour (parking is limited). There is a $30 entrance fee to Shenandoah National Park ($20 for seniors) unless someone in the car has a national park pass.

Trail Description: This loop trail starts on the Appalachian Trail which is across the street from the parking area. At the junction with Jones Run Trail, head downhill along Jones Run to the Doyles River. At Jones River Falls (about halfway), we will break for lunch before starting to head back uphill. We will pass a couple more waterfalls before arriving at the Brown's Gap Fire road which heads back up to the road.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging (1,300’ elevation gain and loss). Distance: 7 miles; Hike Duration: 4 - 4.5 hours

Bring: Daypacks, water (2 liters per person), lunch and snacks. Trekking poles and insect repellent are recommended.
