Trout Pond Fall Stocking Update: Catch and Keep One starts on New Year’s Day 2022

Fishing on Trout Pond started up again on November 12th and the photos here show just a few of the happy anglers having a great time.

Mother Nature has reminded us that it's difficult to shoot well with numb fingers. The Wintergreen Sporting Club archery group has ended the 2021 archery season at the Jerry Rendich Archery Range at Rodes Farm and the Field Trail at the end of Old Stoney Creek Road. The Rodes Farm range remains open, of course, 24/7.

Wintergreen Sporting Club members will be offered one of four free classes this spring. There will be two classes for beginners on two different days, and one non-beginner class. These free classes are only for WSC members.

The threat of showers did very little to dampen the turnout at the 2021 Wintergreen Fall Bass Fishing Tournament with some 19 registered competitors showing up on October 16th to fish The Ponds of Wintergreen.

The good news is the club's boating program now has a solid base. The website has a good list of successful local river trips with details on the outfitters. There are 328 people in the club's email system who have asked to receive emails about boating trips. And most all of the trips were well attended.
Bob and Vicki Keenan host WSC Fishing Conclave

The setting for our August 5th Fishing Conclave was idyllic. Having it at Bob and Vicki Keenan's large stone patio overlooking Lake Monacan would have been fine enough alone. And the weather was perfect; very warm in the shade of the house with a steady breeze from the lake.

It is fun to fling arrows. Some archers, however, want to set goals to improve their archery skills and have a way to track their progress. To meet this need, the Wintergreen Sporting Club archery award program has been started to provide a framework to help members improve by setting personal archery goals.

Tim Hess and his son-in-law, Jason Weaver from Hilton Head, SC. went fishing on the tailwaters of the Jackson River on July 6th. They report catching multiple wild rainbows. Jason cast this 19-incher on a hopper with a size 12 rubber legs dropper. Tommy Lawhorne of the South River Fly Shop in Waynesboro was their guide.

It was a good day. The weather was forecasted to be hot, but it wasn’t bad–until about 1:30 when most of us were in sight of the Scottsville bridge. Before that, there were often breezes on the river and white clouds sometimes provided a break from the sun.
