Four rides planned for July 2021
/See our email HERE with useful links
Wednesday, July 7th- JACKSON RIVER TRAIL
Trailhead is at 1903 Dressler Drive, Covington Va., which is 103 miles (an hour and 45 minutes) drive from Stoney Creek. The parking lot is above the Alleghany Outdoor Store, Plan to meet in the parking lot at 10:00 am.
PLEASE! Let me know if you are riding the trail by sending me an email HERE. The 28-mile round trip trail is composed of compacted fine crust stone, with trees lining both sides of the path along the Jackson River. I rode the trail last week, it was 90 degrees but it felt much cooler riding in the shade. We can gather at the James Burke House Eatery after the ride. (Pictures and a few more details to come.)
Wednesday, July 14th- MIDDLEBROOK, VA
Meet at the Middlebrook General Store parking lot on Rt.252 at 9:00 am; it is a 45-minute drive from Stoney Creek. This Augusta County ride is on county roads amidst farm fields starting at the General Store. We take Rt. 876 North to Rt. 602 SE, to Rt. 677 East & North to Rt. 603 East to Rt. 252 North back to the General Store. The roads are all asphalt with some short hills making the trip a little over 30 miles, making this a challenging ride.
Wednesday, July 21st - TBA
We were looking at the Capital Trail for this date, but several cyclists advised this ride should be scheduled later in the year when temperatures are cooler. That being the case, Iet's plan a cooler tree-lined ride for this date. Suggestions welcomed.
Thursday, July 29th- HARPERS FERRY
This trip is being planned for an overnight stay for the evening of Thursday, July 29 in Harpers Ferry WV. It is a 2-hour and 30-minute drive from Stoney Creek. The plan is to drive to Harpers Ferry on Thursday morning, ride north on the C&O bike trail, stay the night in Harpers Ferry. Friday morning we can ride south on the C&O and return to Stoney Creek. Details for the trip are being developed and will be posted.
More details to follow on all of this. Questions or suggestions can be emailed to me at biking@wtgsportingclub.org.
