Wintergreen Sporting Club members will be offered one of four free classes this spring. There will be two classes for beginners on two different days, and one non-beginner class. These free classes are only for WSC members. Go here to join WSC.

From October 1 through May 31, the state's Department of Wildlife Resources will stock nearly one million catchable-size trout into 200 waters throughout Virginia. See the state's "all about trout" webpage HERE

Classroom-instructed classes for all interested in fly fishing
• Thursday, March 17th 1:30 to 4:00 pm at Tuckahoe Clubhouse, Room A (main large room) - capacity 10-12
or
• Friday, March 18th, 1:30 - 4:00 pm at Tuckahoe Clubhouse, Room A (main large room) - capacity 10-12

This classroom-instructed class will be led by Al Simpson and Mike Fisher. This class was extremely popular the last time it was offered. Don't miss this opportunity. Mike and Al will provide insights into trout behavior through understanding their streams and food sources. Selection of artificial flies, how to best fish them, necessary equipment, knots, and nearby streams will be discussed. This class is ideal for both beginners and intermediate-level fly fishers. It will be entirely indoors and participants need to bring only their own refreshments.

Two pond-side, hands-on new to fly fishing class
• Saturday, April 9th 9 to 11 am at Grassy Pond - capacity 6.
or
• Wednesday, April 20th, 9 to 11 am at Grassy Pond - capacity 6.

One pond-side, hands-on Non-Beginner Fly Fishing class
• Friday, April 22nd, 3 pm to 4:30 pm at Long Pond - capacity 8.

Notes on the classes:

  • Everyone is asked o bring their own fly fishing equipment to outdoor classes. Participants in the beginner's classes may not own equipment; we are asking beginners to try to borrow a friend’s rod if they don't have one. We have a few “loaner” rods and please make a note on the registration form if you need gear.

  • These classes are being offered to WSC members only and are being taught by WSC members at no charge. Please refrain from inviting non-members to these classes.

  • And, most importantly, thanks to John Tani, Bruce Henderson, Tim Hess, Al Simpson, and Mike Fisher for offering their talent, time, and patience to instruct our classes.
