Ride Report: Harper's Ferry, West Virginia
/Lenlee and Chris Corish were the only ones who made the July 29 biking group’s trip to Harper’s Ferry [map]. Chris sent in this report and photos:
“We had a great time. We arrived at Harper’s Ferry in the evening and checked in at the Stonehouse Inn. We toured the town by foot, and hit a bar or two, then enjoyed dinner at The Anvil in nearby Bolivar.
The next morning we drove north to the Antietam Creek access point on the C&O Trail near Sharpsburg and unloaded our bikes. We did this because, while you can access the C&O bike trail walking across the railway bridge at The Point at Harper’s Ferry there are quite a lot of stairs so, with my gimpy leg, we drove up.
We rode only seven miles north to mile marker 75 and turned around and returned to our car. About an hour and a half bike ride roundtrip. Then we drove to Antietam Battlefield and toured by car but you could do it by bike.
We then went to nearby Shepherdstown and ate lunch at The Lilah, which was awesome.
