Sold out: 2022 Boating Season starts on May 26th on the Rivanna River
/Don't mess with success. For the third season in a row, the club's first boating trip of the year will be with the Rivanna River Company. See the report on the 2021 trip here.
The float will again go from Charlottesville to Keswick. It is a fun 5.5-mile trip. It has Class I and Class II rapids. We'll be on the water from about 10:30 am to 3:30 pm on Tuesday, May 26th. Sign up here. Those who want to carpool can meet at the Stoney Creek Golf Club parking lot, leaving at 9 am.
The fun rapids and a rich history "make the river great to explore with a guide, for healthy people with little or no paddling experience and any river runner interested in natural history, wildlife identification, and historical perspective," says Gabe Silver.
As before, Gabe will be our guide. He will demonstrate paddling skills, and how to read the whitewater and maneuver your kayak. Gabe, owner of Rivanna River Company with his wife, Soyna, is intimately familiar with the river and its stories and wild inhabitants.
All the participants need to do is show up in the appropriate clothing and bring a lunch to enjoy on the river (see a full explanation & details here). Rivanna River Company will take care of everything else, taking us to the river and back to their base.
The cost of this guided river trip is $50 per person, non-refundable. This is a discounted rate for WSC members only. Deadline is May 19th, but sign up now as this trip has sold out quickly in previous years. (You can bring your own kayak, but the price stays the same. Rivanna River Company cannot increase the number on this guided trip.) This is a members-only trip; join WSC here.
Before you register, go HERE. Read all of the official information from the Rivanna River Company about this trip, including details about exactly where we'll meet in Charlottesville, what to wear, what's allowed and not, etc.
Don't miss this fun trip. Go here now to sign up.
*Either sit-on-top or sit-in solo kayaks can be reserved. The number of sit-in kayaks is limited. Tandem canoes for people with experience canoeing on rivers can also be used.
