Trout Fishing Tournament 2024–Saturday morning, May 4

Keep All You Catch! Prizes! FREE!

The 2024 Wintergreen Trout Tournament on the Trout Pond in Stoney Creek held on Saturday, May 4, starts at 8:30 am and ends at 11:30 am; prizes will be awarded at noon. No pre-registration is needed. The fish stocked for this event, now in its sixth year, are in the 14-to-20-inch range and may weigh up to 6 pounds!

The rules are simple. There is no cost to participate; WSC membership is not required. Those fishing only need a valid Virginia Freshwater Fishing License, and be a Wintergreen property owner, a guest of a Wintergreen property owner, or a guest of the Wintergreen Resort.

The usual restrictions for the Trout Pond will be waived for the tournament only. Any type of bait, artificial or natural, and any rod will be allowed. All fish caught can be kept. There is no limit on the number of trout you may keep. Only fishing from shore is allowed; no kayaks, boats, flotation devices, or rafts.

Fish must be weighed in by 11:45 am to be eligible for prizes at noon. Prizes will be awarded for first, second, and third place in two categories–under 14 years, and 14 years and older. Fish will be judged on weight, scales will be available. Youngsters may be assisted but must land the fish themselves to be awarded a prize. The Wintergreen Property Owners Association and the Wintergreen Sporting Club co-sponsor the tournament.

Trout Pond can be accessed by walking from the Lake Monacan parking lot. In the event of bad weather, the rain date is the next Saturday, May 11. Updates will be posted here as needed.
