Pistol and Rifle 2022: Serious fun developing skills

The WSC Pistol and Rifle Group had an enjoyable confab at Bold Rock on Monday, March 14th. They considered many ideas and discuss established shooting programs, and decided on plans for the coming year. Here's their report:

Rifle and Pistol Shooting starts up again next Monday, March 21st, and will continue shooting every Monday, alternating between improving our pistol skills and rifle skills every other Monday.

Pistol

The WSC Pistol Challenge starts up again next Monday (March 21). Defensive Pistol begins on April 4. For safety reasons, to participate in the defensive handgun challenge members must first demonstrate that they are capable of shooting at the “expert” skill level as defined by the WSC Pistol Shooting Challenge Program.

The WSC Pistol Shooting Challenge has proven to be a great way to develop skills. These timed events are not a competition. It is a self-challenge to develop and demonstrate five skill levels of pistol shooting from Pro Marksman, Marksman, Sharpshooter, Expert, and Distinguished Expert. Four WSC members have earned Distinguished Expert level, a nationally recognized achievement.

Additionally or alternatively, members who want to move on to Bullseye Pistol Shooting Program can shoot on Wednesday at noon for a structured match. Most current WSC members in our group are now well prepared for that level of shooting. Shooters are allowed to shoot one-handed or two-handed. Tom Willis will be coaching this activity.

Rifle

Rifle shooting will begin by testing and adjusting sights and zeroing in rifles on March 28, using sandbags and rifle holders. This effort will be led by Ron Coté. WSC will have extra .22 rifles for member use during most sessions.

How it works

RRPC members who are part of WSC are free to join us at any of these gatherings and shoot anything within the range rules on a different range. As in the past, non-members of RRPC need to have a sponsoring member of RRPC nearby if they are not shooting with the WSC group.

Every Monday, except for national holidays, our group will assemble at 9 am in the Stoney Creek Golf Clubhouse parking lot (1354 Stoney Creek West) to carpool or caravan to Rivanna Rifle and Pistol Club ranges.

We can utilize both the indoor and outdoor ranges depending on weather conditions and the type of firearms you wish to shoot. We will cease-fire before noon and head back, grabbing lunch at places such as Crossroads Deli, Blue Mountain Brewery, or possibly back here in Nellysford. Questions? The Rivanna Rifle and Pistol Club is located in Albemarle County, just southwest of Charlottesville [map]. RRPC has indoor and outdoor ranges open only to RRPC members (several are WSC members) and a limited number of guests. WSC and RRPC are not affiliated. To shoot at RRPC you must be a member of RRPC or a guest of an RRPC member.
