Field Range Work Day 2022: Friday, March 18 at 2 pm

The annual preseason survey of the Wintergreen Sporting Club’s field range in the mountains at the very end of Old Stoney Creek Road revealed that the repairs needed this year are fairly typical. The targets didn’t appear to have attracted the attention of any playful bears this winter and the heavy snow did less damage than might have been expected.

That said, there is work to be done to bring this archery range in the woods back online. Join us for some fun work on the trail on Friday, March 18, 2022, at 2 pm. RSVP with an email to archery@wtgsportingclub.org.

Here is the plan for March 18th:

  • The picnic table remains in excellent shape. The trail overall is in very good shape, from beginning to end, has no trees down blocking the way, and no erosion. All that’s needed on the trails and paths is a walk with a powerful gasoline leaf blower.

  • Lane 1: The target is faded, a new target face is needed.

  • Lane 2: Backstop and target is down, but easily repaired. Drill needed create cable hole on backstop support. Two cable clamps, nut driver.. Target needs to be flipped. Zip-ties, awl.

  • Lane 3: Two cable clamps, drill for backstop support. Flip target.

  • Lane 4: Tree supporting target and backstop down. 20 ft of cable, clamps, 5-ft step ladder. Flip target. Yellow sign needs bolt and nut replaced.

  • Lane 5: Flip target. Replace two cable clamps; WD40.

  • Lane 6: OK.

  • Lane 7: New face needed; zip-ties.

  • Lane 8: 25 ft of heavy cord to stand up the bear target; flip primary target, 2 cable clamps, zip-ties.
