Hike: McAfee Knob - September 4th

Join us for this iconic hike to the most photographed spot on the Appalachian Trail. This will be an up and back 8 mile hike starting at the McAfee Knob Parking lot on Rte 311 (Catawba Valley Drive): Here

Directions: From 81S, take exit 141 for VA-419 towards VA-311N. On VA-311, drive approximately 5.5 miles to the trailhead parking on the left.

We will begin at 10:00 am. Note: it is a 2-hour drive to the trailhead.

If you would like to carpool - we can take up to 3 people - please let me know if you need a ride or willing to give others a ride. We will meet at the Stoney Creek golf course parking lot at 8:00 am.

Hike: This is a moderately difficult hike. This is a slow and steady climb to the most photographed spot on the Appalachian Trail. The peak at McAfee Knob is 3,171', giving it some of the best views in the state

Distance: 7.9 miles Elevation gain: 1,800’

Bring: snacks, lunch (we will eat lunch on the trail), water (2 liters recommended). Recommended: hiking poles, bug spray and sun screen.
