2025 WSC Boating Schedule

The Wintergreen Sporting Club (WSC) Boating Group is gearing up for another great boating schedule. All boating trips are arranged with a local river company. A link will be provided for each trip through the river company for members to sign up.

Below is a tentative schedule of upcoming trips. Club newsletters will include links to sign up for these hikes in the future.

May 21: Rivanna River Kayak trip with 2 guides.   Sign up link coming.

June 25:  James River Kayak with Twin River Outfitters out of Buchanan and will include 2 guides.

July 9: James River. Canoe and fishing, two per canoe.  The guides will know the river for the best fishing areas.  The plan is to stop every 20 minutes or so to fish.

August 21:  Jackson River.  Kayaking and, if interested, 4 to 6 persons in canoe with a knowledgeable guide to fish.  Note: The dam release schedule has not been posted yet this year. Once confirmed, a final date for this trip will be set.

In addition to the above, the group plans on exploring local lakes. These trips will be announced through the club newsletter. The group will meet up at the Stoney Creek Golf Course parking lot for trips to the local lakes.

BLUE RIDGE SAILING CLUB: Did you know that our community has a radio control sailing club that meets regularly at Lake Monocan? Although not part of the sporting club, it is a community organization, and is affiliated with the American Model Yachting Association.  Doug Green cofounded the club and helped grow its membership over the years with emphasis on a nationally recognized one design model boat called the CR-914.  The 914 is a club racer and races competitively across the U.S.  It has very beautiful lines and is modeled after one of the America’s Cup class yachts.  It’s an absolute pleasure to sail and is suitable for both experienced and inexperienced sailors. Unlike many one design boats it doesn’t require sail changes to accommodate varying wind and water conditions. This allows 914 sailors to relax and enjoy their boat’s responsiveness to their touch.  The boat measures 36” in length and is 5’ from keel to top of mast. Despite its size, it is lightweight - 6.5 lbs.
The Blue Ridge Sailing Club welcomes all RC sailboats and meets regularly at Lake Monocan, near the dam, where a buoyed course is set for those who are competitively minded.
