The Wintergreen Sporting Club Fishing Group has another exciting year planned.

In addition to the popular Fishing Conclaves there will be three fishing tournaments and a special get-together for the 40+ donors that contributed to last year’s Fall Trout Stocking.

Management of the Fishing Ponds of Wintergreen is an effort of the WSC Fishing Group in cooperation with the Wintergreen Property Owners Association.

We have once again created an opportunity for many of our members to become fledgling anglers by providing several lessons for both fly fishing and spin cast fishing. The lessons are structured for both beginners and more advanced anglers. Notices for these events are posted on our website and are open, and free, to all members of the WSC.

This spring we plan to create added structure by sinking evergreen trees in a half dozen ponds. This program was instituted several years ago. The added structure provides shelter for hatching and small (fry) fish of all species. The structure provides a haven for the young fish and allows them to grow, replenishing the stock in the ponds. In addition to the aerators added a few years ago this structure is valuable to an ongoing sustainable fish habitat.

We are currently planning the Spring Trout Tournament as well as the Summer Bass Tournament. While some of the plans are not finalized, the Trout Tournament will be on May 4th with a rain date of May 11th. This is a fun event , open to all Wintergreen residents and their accompanied guests with no catch limits. There will be prizes for the biggest fish and a separate bracket for junior anglers. As our other events take shape we will be posting details on the website.

The 2024 calendar for the Fishing Group thus far:

  • Tuesday, March 26th - "Happy Hour" conclave from 4-6 pm at Iron and Ale

  • Saturday, March 30th - Beginner Fly Fishing lesson 10 am to noon on The Trout Pond

  • Friday, April 5th - Beginner Fly Fishing lesson 2-4 pm on The Trout Pond

  • Saturday, April 6th - Non-Beginner Fly Fishing lesson 10 am to noon on Long Pond

  • Saturday, April 6th - Spin-casting fishing lesson 10 am to noon on The Trout Pond

  • Saturday, May 4th am - WSC annual Trout Tournament on The Trout Pond 8 AM to 11:30 AM,   Rain date 5/11;

  • Thursday, June 6th - “Hosted” Conclave at the home of Cecile and Dennis Ravenscroft.   Time TBD.
