While the all-volunteer Wintergreen Sporting Club's primary focus is shooting, archery, boating, biking, hiking, and fishing, it's also a fun social and service group. WSC members are expanding and improving the sporting and fellowship opportunities for everyone in the community. Join us!
Archery
THE ARCHERY GROUP practices with recurve and compound bows. Loaner equipment is available and volunteers offer coaching to those new to the sport. The group meets weekly at a six-lane archery range next to the Wintergreen Property Owners Association tennis court and swimming pool complex at Rodes Farm, and bimonthly at a eight-station field archery range on five heavily-wooded acres of WPOA property at the end of Old Stoney Creek Road. Volunteers in the group maintain both venues.See what's happening now HERE >
Boating
THE BOATING GROUP enjoys canoeing and kayaking on both flat water as well as on the area’s many rivers and streams. The boaters schedule several day trips each year. Most of the club members in the boating group are not boat owners, but rely on area outfitters. Most of the river trips are stick with easy rivers with Class I and II rapids. The trips are usually about four to six hours on the water. Some members are exploring local small rivers by paddling. See what's happening now HERE >
Shooting
THE SHOOTING GROUP within the Wintergreen Sporting Club is made up of two segments: shotgun (shooting at flying clay targets), and pistol & rifle. Both hold regularly scheduled shooting events at established public and private ranges in central Virginia. Members of the two shooting groups have put on gun safety classes open to the entire Wintergreen community. Those new to shooting sports are welcome to observe at any event. Shooting safely is stressed at all times. See what's happening now HERE
Biking
THE BIKING GROUP brings members together for non-competitive cycling opportunities around the Wintergreen area and other Virginia locations. The group’s rides range from a few hours to overnight trips. The emphasis is on safe and healthy cycling in a friendly group setting. The only required equipment are a bike and a helmet, both in good condition. Let’s get rolling, learn more HERE >
Fishing
THE FISHING GROUP is for all who enjoy fly, spin, or bait casting, or want to learn how. Monthly informal get-togethers are for fishing men and women to discuss what’s working best in the many nearby fishing waters. There are formal programs on trout and bass fishing, lessons on fly-fishing, and Spring and Fall bass fishing tournaments. The club has improved fishing at Wintergreen overall by sponsoring an analysis of the ecological health of several ponds in Stoney Creek and created a Guide to the Ponds of Wintergreen. The WSC coordinated fundraising to purchase and install an aerator for the trout pond. The fishing group also manages the rainbow trout stocking program with WPOA. See what's happening now HERE >
Hiking
THE HIKING GROUP explores hiking opportunities in the central Virginia area. The group’s hikes vary from easy to challenging, long and short. The goal is to provide a fun way to explore new and familiar parts of this region’s beautiful nature and history with your friends and neighbors. The club strives to have every hiker have a good experience on every hike. See what’s happening now HERE >
