Annual Meeting and Dinner Fall 2022

Some 90+ people came out for the Wintergreen Sporting Club’s 2022 annual meeting on November 4th.

Membership continues to grow. Treasurer Jerry Gress reported there were 295 paid members of the club, six months earlier the club had 238 members. There are about 590 subscribers to the club’s free-to-everyone emails. Gress has agreed to serve as treasurer for another year.

In brief,...

The archery group's lead, Mike Capps, said 2022 was their most active year ever. See his report here.

The biking group also had a very active year, with 17 rides over 26 weeks. Tim Jordan, the biking group lead, said he noted that more riders turn out when dining is part of the ride.

Water levels again kept the boating group from getting on the rivers more often than they would like, said interim lead Ron Cote. The two trips that were held in 2022 filled all of the outfitters' allowed spaces.

Fishing has four co-leads–Chris Corish, Ron Cote, Marty Echols, and Jerry Gress. The group's fly fishing classes were again a big hit this year, as were the fishing conclaves, which Chris Corish called "rolling cocktail parties." The fishing group's management of the trout pond, which includes a stocking in the spring and fall both now along with feeding the stocked fish, is going well. There were three fishing tournaments this year–spring, early summer, and a fall bass tournament.

Shooting has two sub-groups--shotgun, and rifle & pistol. Jerry Gress leads the shotgun group with weekly shoots on Fridays which has about seven men and women regulars. Anyone wanting to try it will be welcome. The rifle and pistol group lead is Jim White, shooting almost every Monday morning at Rivanna Rifle and Pistol Club.

The WSC social committee’s fall dinner at Tuckahoe Clubhouse was well received. In addition to the fall and spring dinners that this group manages, in 2022 the WSC Social Group held its first summer social on Sunday, June 26 at Tuckahoe Clubhouse.

This year’s dinner came from Charlottesville Sticks, which brought in Chicken Kebobs with dipping sauces, rice, Cucumber, Tomato and Red Onion Salad, Sesame Green Beans, Hummus, and Flat Bread.

Dessert was homemade Key Lime Pie by WSC’s Alice Karrh.

John Morgan was thanked for his outstanding work with the WSC Archery Group. Read more here.

The shooting’s Group’s Bill Fitzpatrick, Bill Faulkenberry, Mark Gomersall, Joe McMoneagle, and (not pictured) Tom Willis were awarded the WSC Defensive Pistol Award, Advanced 2nd level.

Steve Schwartz, Joe McMoneagle. Ron Cote and (not pictured) Dima Holmes, James Gaul and Ben Holmes won the NRA Distinguished Expert Pistol Shooting award this year.

Lenlee Corish was the creative mastermind behind the unique centerpieces at the fall annual meeting.
