Advanced fly-fishing class offered

Updated February 22, 2017

An intermediate class fly tying class, starting on March 27th, for more experienced fly-tiers where more complex patterns will be tied. (See details below.)

The classes are limited to ten students.

Al Simpson is leading the class intermediate one, assisted by Mike Fisher.

Registration will be open to club members only until ten days before the start of the class. If a class is not full, the classes will be open to others to help ensure we have enough students to make the class worthwhile. Renew or start your WSC membership HERE.

There is no charge for the classes although a one-time materials fee of $10 will be paid directly to the instructor at the first class.

We anticipate having a few loaner vises available on a first-come, first-served basis for the beginner class, but not enough for the whole class. If you buy or can borrow a vise it would be helpful.

If you want to buy a vise, the South River Fly Shop in Waynesboro is recommended. They have vises and other tools available in a range of costs, and we recommend you buy the best you can afford if you plan to stay with tying.

Register by sending an email to Mike Fisher at michaelfisherva@aol.com

Classes will be held 7 to 9 pm in the downstairs classroom at the Rockfish Presbyterian Church on Route 151 just north of Nellysford. [map]

About the Intermediate Class: This fly-tying course has been designed to build upon the skills learned in the beginners’ course. It would also be helpful for any experienced fly-tiers looking to expand their skill set. Flies to be tied have been selected both for the techniques required to tie them, as well as their usefulness (as judged by trout).

No additional tools beyond those recommended for the beginners’ course are necessary, although magnifiers may be helpful for tying the smaller patterns.

There is no charge to members for the classes although a one-time materials fee of $10 will be paid directly to the instructor at the first class.
