Boating Season starts May 12 on Lake Monocan

The 2024 WSC boating season next Sunday (May 12) at noon at the launch slope at the north end of Lake Monocan. This is the area where Wintergreen Adaptive Sports has used to launch its kayaks. The weather forecast says Thursday is going to be in the 80s; there is a chance of thunderstorms and that starts to look serious, we'll reschedule.

Wintergreen Adaptive Sports has some kayaks and they offered us several to try on the lake. Also, I will bring two of my kayaks on Thursday.

Thursday will be an excellent opportunity to try different style kayaks, such as sit-in,  and sit-on kayaks. There will also be several different kinds of paddles to try. If you have a "personal flotation device" bring it, but we have a few extras.

I was once told to take a class getting in and out of a kayak to "not look like a dork." It was a good idea so we will discuss some strategies.

We'll also cover how posture differences make a difference in stability in the boat. The basics of paddling can be discussed as well.

For those interested, we get on the water and practice helping someone else get back in their kayak when they lose it on the water.  (I’ll be the one who turned over his kayak.) And, we will demonstrate getting back in your kayak while in the water

Questions will be encouraged. This should be a fun, interesting day. We're sending the email out to everyone on the club's list. A quick email RSVP by clicking here would be helpful, but not required.
