Boating lead needed

From: Charles Batchelor & Richard Elder

For a number of different and unrelated reasons, both of us are stepping down from leading the WSC boating group.

The good news is the club's boating program now has a solid base. The website has a good list of successful local river trips with details on the outfitters. There are 328 people in the club's email system who have asked to receive emails about boating trips. And most all of the trips were well attended.

As we noted in April, the WSC Boating Group has evolved over several years. The focus is now on river trips relying on the gear and services of professional outfitters in the area and this has worked well.

Any WSC member can put together a group river trip on their own using the information on the website and asking the club to announce their plans. From what we have seen, however, there needs to be at least a little leadership responsible for a little planning.

The outfitters and the WSC make it easy, so the job of the lead is mostly 1) picking a river, 2) contacting an outfitter, 3) selecting a date, and 4) sending out an email. All of the communications are done via emails.

We had hoped to lead at least one more trip this season. If someone can take the lead and announce a fall river trip for late September or early October, that would be great. We'll help with the emailing and answer questions. Email the club leadership at info@wtgsportingclub.org if you're interested.

Thanks to the club for their support and assistance (especially WSC Treasurer Jerry Gress making collecting funds via credit card effortless) and all the great club members who showed up to paddle.
