Fishing News, Reports, & Events
The fishing group is for all who enjoy fly, spin, or bait casting, or want to learn how. The monthly informal get-togethers (called fishing conclaves) at local restaurants and Wintergreen homes are for fishing men and women to discuss anything fishing-related: where they've been fishing, where they are going next, what lures are working best, etc. in the many nearby fishing waters. There are also formal programs on trout and bass fishing, lessons on fly-fishing, and a Spring and Fall bass fishing tournament. The club's fishing group has improved fishing at Wintergreen overall by sponsoring an analysis of the ecological health of the ponds in Stoney Creek and has been working to improve the habitat of the ponds by submerging discarded Christmas trees in the ponds during the Spring of the year. Working with the Wintergreen Property Owners Association, the WSC coordinated fundraising to purchase and install aerators in the trout pond. The fishing group also manages the annual late winter/early spring rainbow trout stocking program with WPOA and, in 2021, the club attempted a late fall stocking of the trout pond.
The 2024 Wintergreen Trout Tournament on Trout Pond in Stoney Creek on Saturday, May 4, starts at 8:30 am and ends at 11:30 am; prizes will be awarded at noon. No pre-registration is needed.
