Spring contest takes place on the Wintergreen ponds of Stoney Creek
The 2017 Wintergreen Bass Fishing Tournament is free and open to all WSC members, their family members, and accompanied guests. Sign-up deadline: Thursday, April 6th. Sign-up online below.
The event will start from Wintergreen's Monocan Clubhouse at 4:30 PM to check in, draw pond assignment and review procedures and rules. (Note: All contestants must have in their possession a valid Virginia fishing license, available on online HERE.) The tournament ends at 7:30 PM when all participates return to the clubhouse.
Only artificial lures, flies, etc., allowed. No live bait. Boats (kayaks, canoes, jon boats) can be used.
Contestants fish in pairs. Both contestants fish; one verifies the bass caught by the other by weighing the catch, recording its weight, and releasing the fish back into the pond.
At the start, each participant and the fishing partner will draw a number out of a hat to determine which two specific ponds the pair can fish during the two-and-half-hour fishing tournament.
The participant who catches and lands the biggest bass will receive a nice prize at the conclusion of the tournament.
At the end of the tournament all participants gather back at Monacan Clubhouse to report their catches and the winner will be announced. Water and adult liquid refreshments will be provided.
Participants should bring a working fish scale. A limited number of scales will be loaned to participants if they do not bring one. An inexpensive scale is available from Walmart in the fishing section (click HERE).
The volunteers organizing and running the tournament include Bruce Henderson, John “Mr. Big Bass” Holman and John Tani.
John Holman can provide suggestions, if requested, to participants regarding best lures to fish, areas of the ponds to concentrate on, etc.
